Axl
That night, the shadow-loid leaps the building to another, and stays hidden under tue shadow. It is his speciality. ]

He was stationed at the laboratory the Hunters believed the Maverick would next hit. It would be his job to guard the most essential area of the lab; the computers, where all of the lab's important data was stored.
Dealing with the sneaky ones was no easy task, so Axl remained serious and alert to any unusual noises and readings. There was no time for jokes here.]

The shadow-loid guessed that someone will guard the laboratory. So what he did, he slowly became any form of shadow and sliped into the laboratory. Easy.
He passed several of securities even local guards. No one ever look at their own shadow during work. And when he reached the data room, he formed back to himself. How unfortunate that no one in this very room, so he began to read any data he needed.
This is too easy.]

It's been a long, long time since the world has needed Zero. The containment chamber he is sealed in is in need of serious maintenance; overgrown and leaking, a secret hidden then forgotten by most of the world. Death and fire overtook living memories.
There are precious few who remember now, in this dark age.
He sleeps, and knows nothing of the world outside. But now footsteps, and plasma fire, and the sounds and cries of frantic pursuit, hunter and hunted, echo through a place long abandoned to the elements.
Precious few know this place. But one of them was known very well to Zero, once upon a time. A new comrade who became invaluable.
"Axl.
Sorry we can't fight together any longer. This world...it's yours, more than any of us. Who better...to fight on and protect the future than someone who belongs to the new generation...?
I trust in you, and in X...as my friends...
It's fine...
The rest...is up to..." ]

Or... that's what he thought, but then Ciel had gone off and made that copy of X, and things changed. Why the Guardians chose to listen to him despite Axl's warnings were a mystery, but he hadn't been surprised when the copy decided to go Maverick and begin a subtle genocide of Reploids. He tried to fight it, but the last straw had been when the copy decided he was no longer necessary and marked him an enemy of the city. A Maverick, officially. Really? Really?
So he chose to return to his vigilante roots and left to fight against the copy and the Guardians. He wasn't happy to be taking down any of X's children, but they didn't seem to want to listen to reason.
The Resistance had always been a third party to him until recently, when he took a hit that forced him to find somewhere to obtain repairs. And they had been hilariously shocked when one of the legendary three turned up at their doorstep looking for help. He still held some bitter feelings for Ciel, who caused the whole problem in the first place, but he couldn't fault her for wanting X back. He wanted X back too.
When she started talking about finding Zero, he'd been strangely reticent to the idea at first. Zero brought on a whole mix of feelings within him, good and bad. But as the fighting between the Resistance and Neo Arcadia got worse, even he had to concede that his power alone wouldn't be enough for this.
Thus, they were here now, in the ruins of Zero's hibernation lab. The Pantheons chased them all the way here, and their numbers had overwhelmed the Resistance members sent on this expedition. The X-copies were endless, and even Axl was starting to show signs of fatigue fighting them. It wasn't good. They had to find Zero before Neo Arcadia found him and destroyed him.
Luckily, the next room he stumbled into to dodge fire was the one that housed the ancient Reploid, and his eyes lit up the moment they landed on him. There he was! He stood up and walked over to the sleeping Reploid.]
Zero...

He looks a lot different too, like wow Zero nice redesignStill, something in him stirs at the familiar voice. Some ripple of movement in a dark pool, a tiny firing of brain activity. Not enough to wake him, but it does help.
When Ciel and the remaining Resistance members run in with Passy, and a lot of Pantheons also charge in, and they do the only thing they can - sentient helpers who die after one use? smart move, who came up with those - Zero goes from asleep to all cylinders operational and firing.
He scoops up a gun from a fallen Resistance member, some part of him taking in the ruined state of the building, who is this girl, what is Axl doing here?? and finds it hard to operate - he's never had much luck with guns. No buster either, sadly. And his saber is gone.
He resorts to ripping heads off, which seems to work like a charm, and soon he's managed to dispose of the first wave.
He looks over at Axl. ]
Axl. Good to see you.
...How do I... [ Waves gun?? how does he gun. Axl you are the gun reploid here. ]
no subject
Well, until Zero went and asked that, and he had to grin a little. He never was good with guns, was he?]
Just point and shoot, it's not that hard. You'll figure out how to aim as you go. [In other words, just wing it. Axl knows you'll figure out one day.
Hopefully today, as the next wave of Pantheons crash through the entrance, and suddenly the air is full of plasma bullets and yells again. Axl ushers Ciel and the weaker Resistance members between him and Zero, guns already taking down Pantheons with precise shots to their point of weakness.]
We've gotta get outta here, Zero! They have way too many Pantheons for us to last!
no subject
He shrugs in a well, okay kind of gesture. He seems to have gotten even less talkative than he was previously, though his somewhat abrupt awakening probably explains a little of that.
Zero's shots are less precise; he closes the distance to make up for his poor aim. They don't scatter like more intelligent enemies would; that makes things difficult, but not impossible.
He does a quick count of those left that he and Axl are defending, and gestures for them to keep moving, keep running. One of them trips; he's there to pull them up again. ]
Alright. [ Axl knows what he's doing and what's going on, which is more than Zero knows.
He briefly wonders where his saber is, but there's no time for that. He points out a side passage, letting Axl lead the way while herding the other--civilians? soldiers? he's not sure -- and bringing up the rear. ]
no subject
It was reassuring to have the red Hunter by his side again.
They quickly make their way back to Resistance base, and once they get in, Axl relaxes.]
Whew! Man, that was pretty harsh.
[He looks over to Zero.]
You okay?
[Not because he thought Zero was incompetent, but the Hunter did just wake up from a century's sleep.]
no subject
Mm. [ A quick nod, a little thumbs-up gesture; yep, he's fine. ] Good work. [ Axl had matured a lot, in the comparatively short time they'd known each other. His skills are still just as impressive as he remembers.
It's good to see Axl again, even if it hadn't been in the best of circumstances. It's good, too, to fight alongside him. ]
...So, where...?
[ Ciel had attempted to impart some information, but he'd been more focused on tearing through enemies and preventing potential casualties than, you know, listening. Some things never change. ]
What's been happening?
no subject
This is the Resistance Base. I know this probably isn't what you wanna hear, but we're at war again. And... the enemy is Neo Arcadia.
[Even Zero knew what Neo Arcadia was. X mentioned his dreams to them both a few times, before Zero sealed himself away.]
It's not X though. He disappeared a long time ago, and-- well, sounds weird, but Ciel -- the lady who was with us -- she made a copy of X. Tried her best and it was pretty damn impressive for a little girl, you have to admit. But it wasn't good enough.
He went Maverick shortly after being forced to replace X, and god knows why X's kids are being stupid and following him, but the copy decided to get rid of all the Reploids, and decided I wasn't needed.
So here we are. Welcome back...?
[He tried, Zero. He did, really.]
no subject
...Then...I wonder what that was.
I heard X's voice...just for a moment. [ He hmms and shakes his head. ] Maybe it was an echo.
I guess it's true. Whenever I'm here, there's war. [ There's a kind of grim humour in his tone; it's an oddly self-fulfilling prophecy. He didn't cause this war, of course, but it is the reason for his awakening.
He shakes his head. ] This copy marked you as 'not needed'? What a stupid decision.
We'll make them regret it.
[ He doesn't seem to have any trouble processing the enormity of the situation or who the enemy is, at least. Truth be told, it's likely because of who's telling it to him; he trusts Axl, and he knows he wouldn't lie about something this important.
After a moment, he sighs, frowning a little. ]
Though I wonder...where did my saber go?
[ Yeah, he's missing it. ]
no subject
But in the end, there's not much he could say in retaliation, so he doesn't comment.]
I have no idea what the kid was thinking; probably wasn't, actually.
[He just shakes his head. He had to get Neo Arcadia back from that stupid copy before he went and ruined X's dream city forever. With Zero, it should prove to be a snap though.]
Well you saw the state of the building you were in, right? Things've happened, so a lot of items got lost in the chaos. Sorry 'bout that.
[He feels bad about that. He was supposed to keep the saber safe, and he'd gone off and lost it instead.]
no subject
[ I mean, there was that whole mess with the copy made by Sigma...and then there was Nightmare Zero.
What is with this whole copy business, anyway. ]
It's no problem. [ He shakes his head. ] You did what you could.
[ Still, it bothers him enough that he goes back to check the building, later that night.
When he returns, he's holding his saber, but he's also going to find Axl. He has something important to tell him. ]
Axl.
I heard X. [ He'd disappeared from Neo Arcadia - that much Zero knew. That meant he'd probably done something stupid and self-sacrificing because X was like that.
But he was sure of that voice -- that voice who had spoken to him. He couldn't possibly forget it. ]

Shadow, because YES
[Rhythm's voice echoes through the building, the small girl sighing and ignoring the odd glances she's getting. She's completely unafraid of them, after all... that's bound to get looks, much less walking right into Wily's fortress.]
Come on, you can't hide from me!
no subject
I'm here.
no subject
[And he gets prodded in the... well, stomach for his trouble. Be easy on her, that's all she can reach.]
it's not nice to keep a lady waiting, you know!
no subject
I believe I've warned you not to enter the castle many times. It's not safe for you.
[This is a futile attempt, he knows, but he's kind of hoping if he keeps warning her something will stick eventually...]
no subject
[She grins at that, casually turning her head to look at the assembled Robot Masters.]
I mean, look at you. You guys are the picture of hostility right now.
no subject
Perhaps the Robot Masters here currently are more friendly, but some among us are less so to humans like you. You would do well to be more wary of us.
[Please listen to him Rhythm. Please. He doesn't want to find you injured or worse after being attacked by one of them. He sighs again, deciding that's enough lecturing for now.]
...now, what did you want of me?
no subject
[She really is reckless... you'd think after an accident like she suffered she'd be more cautious, not less.]
And I came here to make you keep your promise.
no subject
...just be more cautious around the ones you are unfamiliar with.
[That's not too much to ask, right? Right????]
My... promise?
[Oh, guess who forgot. Oops.]
no subject
Okay, okay... I promise I'll be careful around the ones I don't know well. Will that make you feel better?
[She smiles, touched. Whatever the reason, Shadow trying so hard to protect her is a really nice feeling.]
Yep, your promise! Remember? I helped out that one time, so you promised to pay me back.
no subject
[Dammit it's for her own safety...!!]
...ah, yes. I remember now. What would you have me do?
no subject
[She grins, lacing her arms behind her back and leaning forward at him a little bit. Can't fool her~...]
You're going to come with me today! I have shopping and testing and building to do, and I want to spend the time with you, too.
