Well, until Zero went and asked that, and he had to grin a little. He never was good with guns, was he?]
Just point and shoot, it's not that hard. You'll figure out how to aim as you go. [In other words, just wing it. Axl knows you'll figure out one day.
Hopefully today, as the next wave of Pantheons crash through the entrance, and suddenly the air is full of plasma bullets and yells again. Axl ushers Ciel and the weaker Resistance members between him and Zero, guns already taking down Pantheons with precise shots to their point of weakness.]
We've gotta get outta here, Zero! They have way too many Pantheons for us to last!

He shrugs in a well, okay kind of gesture. He seems to have gotten even less talkative than he was previously, though his somewhat abrupt awakening probably explains a little of that.
Zero's shots are less precise; he closes the distance to make up for his poor aim. They don't scatter like more intelligent enemies would; that makes things difficult, but not impossible.
He does a quick count of those left that he and Axl are defending, and gestures for them to keep moving, keep running. One of them trips; he's there to pull them up again. ]
Alright. [ Axl knows what he's doing and what's going on, which is more than Zero knows.
He briefly wonders where his saber is, but there's no time for that. He points out a side passage, letting Axl lead the way while herding the other--civilians? soldiers? he's not sure -- and bringing up the rear. ]

It was reassuring to have the red Hunter by his side again.
They quickly make their way back to Resistance base, and once they get in, Axl relaxes.]
Whew! Man, that was pretty harsh.
[He looks over to Zero.]
You okay?
[Not because he thought Zero was incompetent, but the Hunter did just wake up from a century's sleep.]

Mm. [ A quick nod, a little thumbs-up gesture; yep, he's fine. ] Good work. [ Axl had matured a lot, in the comparatively short time they'd known each other. His skills are still just as impressive as he remembers.
It's good to see Axl again, even if it hadn't been in the best of circumstances. It's good, too, to fight alongside him. ]
...So, where...?
[ Ciel had attempted to impart some information, but he'd been more focused on tearing through enemies and preventing potential casualties than, you know, listening. Some things never change. ]
What's been happening?

This is the Resistance Base. I know this probably isn't what you wanna hear, but we're at war again. And... the enemy is Neo Arcadia.
[Even Zero knew what Neo Arcadia was. X mentioned his dreams to them both a few times, before Zero sealed himself away.]
It's not X though. He disappeared a long time ago, and-- well, sounds weird, but Ciel -- the lady who was with us -- she made a copy of X. Tried her best and it was pretty damn impressive for a little girl, you have to admit. But it wasn't good enough.
He went Maverick shortly after being forced to replace X, and god knows why X's kids are being stupid and following him, but the copy decided to get rid of all the Reploids, and decided I wasn't needed.
So here we are. Welcome back...?
[He tried, Zero. He did, really.]

...Then...I wonder what that was.
I heard X's voice...just for a moment. [ He hmms and shakes his head. ] Maybe it was an echo.
I guess it's true. Whenever I'm here, there's war. [ There's a kind of grim humour in his tone; it's an oddly self-fulfilling prophecy. He didn't cause this war, of course, but it is the reason for his awakening.
He shakes his head. ] This copy marked you as 'not needed'? What a stupid decision.
We'll make them regret it.
[ He doesn't seem to have any trouble processing the enormity of the situation or who the enemy is, at least. Truth be told, it's likely because of who's telling it to him; he trusts Axl, and he knows he wouldn't lie about something this important.
After a moment, he sighs, frowning a little. ]
Though I wonder...where did my saber go?
[ Yeah, he's missing it. ]
no subject
But in the end, there's not much he could say in retaliation, so he doesn't comment.]
I have no idea what the kid was thinking; probably wasn't, actually.
[He just shakes his head. He had to get Neo Arcadia back from that stupid copy before he went and ruined X's dream city forever. With Zero, it should prove to be a snap though.]
Well you saw the state of the building you were in, right? Things've happened, so a lot of items got lost in the chaos. Sorry 'bout that.
[He feels bad about that. He was supposed to keep the saber safe, and he'd gone off and lost it instead.]

[ I mean, there was that whole mess with the copy made by Sigma...and then there was Nightmare Zero.
What is with this whole copy business, anyway. ]
It's no problem. [ He shakes his head. ] You did what you could.
[ Still, it bothers him enough that he goes back to check the building, later that night.
When he returns, he's holding his saber, but he's also going to find Axl. He has something important to tell him. ]
Axl.
I heard X. [ He'd disappeared from Neo Arcadia - that much Zero knew. That meant he'd probably done something stupid and self-sacrificing because X was like that.
But he was sure of that voice -- that voice who had spoken to him. He couldn't possibly forget it. ]

[The Resistance hadn't been too keen on letting Zero walk right back out, but well, it was Zero. They couldn't do much about it. Axl himself was fully confident Zero would return, so he wasn't concerned. But what did concern him was what Zero said first thing upon return.]
What? Where??
[He wanted to know where X was desperately.]
no subject
[ They always want to reach for more, or they don't think it would happen to them. But that's what the human - and reploid - experience is. Sigma had kept getting back up no matter how much they'd beaten his face into the ground, after all. ]
He gave me my saber back. [ He's holding it loosely, like it will give him some trace of their missing friend. ] He sounded really distant. Like he was far away. But it was him.
Though I didn't see him. I think he was using a computer, or something, because the saber fell from the ceiling. [ It's odd. Unless X was climbing around in the walls, it's not something he could have done without Zero seeing. And if he was in the walls, Zero would have heard him. ]
