[ The wise choice obviously never fails to be fight back, regardless of the odds. Forte has no intentions of rolling over and showing his belly without a fight, much less giving up on something he wanted just on Serenade's word. Back down? Please. He isn't a coward. This atmosphere, he knows exactly how to respond to.

Standing on the edge of the pathway, a drop into a background of static scrolling past below their feet, and sensing the familiar tidal wave of energy brewing slowly in Serenade, Forte's mouth splits with a smirk.

Bloodthirsty? Yes. ]

Frankly, I'd prefer to have you step out of the way, Serenade... but I wouldn't mind making you.

[ Both of Forte's fists engulf themselves readily and furiously in a burst of power, radiating a purple aura, pushing his own energy output up. If neither stands down in the next few seconds, there's going to be blows. ]

[They'd figured it'd come done to blows when Forte noticed that energy signature. It almost always did (though part of them had been hoping otherwise).

Serenade doesn't move at Forte's words, face maintaining that cold smile as they thought. As it stood, Forte would be able to make a run for it if he so chose to head towards the energy signature instead of staying to battle with the King. There was a clear path to the next warp pad, about a few hundred metres behind Forte.

Then, during the course of the battle, they would have to switch positions with Forte somehow. Hm.]

Make me? [Serenade chuckles.] You say that as if you even have the power to defeat me. It's a shame, isn't it? No matter what you do, you will never obtain that power.

[Now.... would Forte take the bait?]

[ Forte tips his head, a little mocking gesture when coupled with a smirk. Clear aggravation sparks, but for the moment pure calculation rules. He rarely needs to fight the same opponent twice, rarely needs to keep in mind an enemy learned of his temperament and attack patterns; Serenade is the exception. (The price of repeated conflict, as he too had taken lessons away from.) His depleted HP puts him at enough of a disadvantage.

Tempting as it was, losing his temper and biting at a goad would only worsen it. ]

Haven't you heard that good things come to whose willing to work for them?

[ Here's the steady, increasing hum of energy collecting in Forte's palms, cloak whipping back from it. To both of their side, the warp pad they arrived from sits. The pathway splits into two, the left leading to a warp pad behind him, the right behind Serenade receding away to more pathways. Forte could guess which way probably led to the center. He can make a run for the energy signature; he doesn't.

A battle's a battle. A race isn't quite the same thing. Besides.

He really did want to punch Serenade in their interfering face a few times before grabbing that energy source. :T ]

Don't mess around.

[HELLO AS THE OPENING VOLLEY HAVE AN EARTHBREAKER. ]

[Indeed, the price of repeated conflict meant both of them were familiar with this particular tango now. Of course, being familiar with each other's abilities and habits didn't provide that much of an advantage for either side. Not to say they were evenly matched -- barring a completely unexpected move on Forte's part, Serenade would always win.

They chuckle -- Forte's very good at drawing that out, it seems.]

Only in a world that is fair and just. But is the world really so fair? You should know.

[Perhaps a jab at one of Forte's sore points would make him more willing to bite. But at least he didn't seem inclined to make a break for it. But then, it was like Forte to pick fights he didn't need to, wasn't it?

Smiling at the familiar move, Serenade shifts to the side gracefully, deflecting the Earthbreaker and send the concentrated energy back at Forte in the form of a Sonic Boom.]

Is that all you have?

[ Not a bite, but it gets a hardening of his face and a: ]

[ Forte's lips peel back faintly. Disgust? Resentment? A refusal to let a verbal thumb pressing onto an old bruise show outwardly? Moving onto a more flippant tone: ]

Twit. As if.

[ Anticipating the reflection, Forte's already zipping out of the way and letting the Sonic Boom barrel past him. It rips apart the section of the pathway behind him that it crashes into. The Earthbreaker had only been to give himself time to put a short distance between them and open up more air-room to maneuver without Serenade following him right away. Charging up another attack in one hand!

Now if only the landscape wasn't so barren of structures... ]

[Having expected Forte to dodge the Sonic Boom, Serenade fires off two orbs of energy that zigzags its way to the other Navi.

They hum in amusement.]

Then let us see if you can pierce my defenses.

[C'mon bro, show Serenade your moves--]

Hah. Is that how you want to play this...

[ Forte lobs two spheres in quick succession at Serenade's position. Seeing the incoming orbs coming at his position, Forte swaps to his buster and fires on them. One is hit, exploding before reaching him. The another orb's zig-zag pattern lets it evade the shots and forces the Life Aura's outline to flicker into view around him as it soaks up the attack. ]

[ Fastening to the pathway, the two bombs pulse once, twice, glowing brighter—

Both erupt into pillars, spearing upward. ]

[Serenade steps back from the mines, out of range but still uncomfortably close to the upcoming blasts. When they do explode into pillars, he twirls, letting his raiment redirect the energy back at Forte as Sonic Booms.

Seems delayed timing attacks don't do much to affect Serenade's ability to reflect damage either.]

[ internally: >B| ]

[ Hurriedly zipping upward to let the Sonic Booms cut past closely under his feet, Forte is sorely tempted to get impatient and dump the ranged attacks he preferred in a beginning round of a battle in favor of moving in close for punching. ]

Fine.

[ Well, why not take Serenade at their '''word,''' have 3 more Delete Tower mines flung at your face Serenade. Petty? Yeah. ]

[Well, hand-to-hand combat might be better in the long run, but Serenade's not about to tell Forte that.

Again, he jumps back, out of the mines' range, raising an eyebrow at the other as he waits for the explosions and myriad of other attacks that are sure to come from the destructive Navi.]

Out of tricks already? What a shame~

[ugh, your face, punching. depleted HP or no, it had better happen soon. don't get impatient, don't get impatient. he slams both hands together and -

Yeah, that's a bunch of FireBurner fire balls coming for the other navi immediately afterwards. ]

[it's a good thing both of them can fly, because by now thanks to Serenade's Sonic Booms and Forte's attacks ripping it up, a lot of the pathway below is kinda history.

... and thanks to his frequent dodging of the Sonic Booms and the light attacks, Forte is starting get to get pushed backwards toward the warp pad behind him. the warp pad leading to the energy source. ]
